R. Kalavathy graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu affiliated to Bharathiyar University,  and obtained a Master Degree in Software Systems from the Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, Rajasthan. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate Programme at Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Kancheepuram in the area of Data Mining. Her areas of interest include Electronics and Electric Circuits, Networks and Data Mining.

 She has to her credit three papers published in National Journals and one in an International Journal. She is an active member of many Professional Societies and has served as Student Branch Counselor of the IEEE Madras Section for two consecutive periods. She has served in various capacities for a period of 23 years in Engineering institutions. In addition to academic responsibilities she has contributed immensely in the administration of the Institutions as Special Officer and Dean of Administration.
