| The International Conference on Intelligent Agent & Multi-Agent Systems 2009 (IAMA09) organized by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) - Vinayaka Missions University (VMU) held at Chennai, India during 22 – 24 July, 2009. This is the first International Conference on Intelligent Agent & Multi-Agent Systems (IAMA09) on this topic held in India. The Conference was co-sponsored by Department of Information Technology Govt of India, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, IEEE Madras Section, IEEE Computer Society Madras Chapter, Computer Society of India Division II on Software, and other industries located in and around Chennai.
In response to the call for papers, a total number of 298 papers were received for the Conference. All the papers were peer reviewed by the members of International Program Committee. The selected papers were published in the IEEE DVD Conference Proceedings. Best papers were selected and awarded.
Eminent researchers and academicians were invited from India and abroad. The pre-conference tutorial sessions were delivered by Prof. Michel N Huhns, University of South Carolina, USA, Dr.Hiranmay Ghosh, Principal Scientist, TCS Innovation Labs, Delhi, India. Dr.T.Chithralekha, Reader, Department. of Banking Technology, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India and Dr.Onn Shehory, IBM Haifa Research Lab, Tel Aviv Site, Haifa University, Israel and Dr. Ravi Gorthi, Principal Scientist, SET Lab, Infosys, Bangalore, (INDIA). 12 technical sessions were conducted on 23rd and 24th July 2009.
The conference was inaugurated on 22 July 2009 at VIGYAN Auditorium SERC, CSIR Campus, Taramani,Chennai. Dr.N.R.Alamelu, Principal, AVIT welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.Ponnusamy, Organizing Secretary of the conference briefed about the conference. Dr.A.S.Ganesan , Pro-Chancellor, VMU in his Presidential address, elaborated on the research activities of the VMU and the steps being taken to establish a Center for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. The proceedings of the conference in IEEE CD form was released by the chief guest Shri.K.Jayarama Krishnan, Vice-President(Global Alliance),TCS and the first copy was received by Dr.Salivahanan,Chairman,IEEE Madras Section. The conference souvenir was released by Dr.Arunachalam Scientist and Advisor (MGT), SERC Chennai and first copy was received by Mr.H.R.Mohan Chairman,IEEE Computer Society. Shri K. Jayarama Krishnan, in his inaugural and keynote address, discussed the importance and significance of Artificial Intelligence in day–to -day life. He wanted researchers to accept the challenges and work on solutions using Artificial Intelligence rather than challenging every aspect. Dr.S.Salivahanan, Shri H R Mohan, Dr.S.Arunachalam, and Shri S.Basker, General Manager, VMU felicitated. The Meeting ended with vote of thanks by Prof.P.T.Sivasankar, HOD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, AVIT.
Realizing the importance and significance of the development in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, a panel discussion was held on “Scope and Challenges of Beginning an Asian Association of Artificial Intelligence” on 24th July 2009. The panel has suggested the formation of the Association at the National Level. |
