Bio-Informatics – Overview
The science of Bioinformatics is the melding of
molecular biology with computer science, which
is essential to the use of genomic information
in understanding human diseases and in the
identification of new molecular targets for drug
discovery. It is in recognition of this that the under
graduate degree in Bioinformatics with a
duration of 8
semesters has been introduced. This
curriculum provides an overall enhancement of
information in sequence analysis, molecular
modeling, drug designing, virtual screening and
docking. The engineers with expertise in
the Bioinformatics area have career and research
opportunities all over the world in various
fields like biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences,
industries, hospitals and research
institutions
Program Objective
Bioinformatics is a marriage between
computational and biological sciences, the most
influential scientific fields in the current
scenario.
1.
To create an ability to
absorb and integrate novel concepts, strong
problem-solving skills and well-developed
practical proficiencies in the area of
biological and computer science.
2.
To develop
information resources and create database on
biological sciences and relevant information
handling tools and techniques.
3.
To establish a link among
scientists in organizations involved in R & D
and manufacturing activities in biomedicine.
